Tol road operator PT Jasamarga Bali Tol (JBT) is scheduled to close the Bali
Mandara toll road during Nyepi, the Hindu day of silence, on the resort
island on Monday.
The toll road will not only be closed to public vehicles, but also to ambulances and police vehicles.
PT JBT president director Akhmad Tito Karim said that during the closure, all tollgates would be completely closed.
"We
don't want to see any vehicles entering the toll road without any
supervision. Moreover, during Nyepi all road lighting will turned off,"
Tito said in Denpasar on Wednesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He further explained that the road closure would take place for 34 hours, from 10 p.m. on Sunday until 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
"The
road closure constitutes our appreciation for the celebration of Nyepi
by Balinese Hindus," Tito said, asking for understanding from the public
and visiting tourists.
No lights can be used, all radio and television
stations will halt broadcasts, and people are not allowed to leave
their homes or hotels except in emergencies. Only hospitals and
emergency services will continue to operate.
There will also be no air or land transportation services allowed to operate to, from, or within Bali for 24 hours. (yln)
